Old post office in Fischbach

The Alte Post on Kufsteiner Strasse in Fischbach, a district of Flintsbach am Inn in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim , is one of three post office buildings on the post connection between Munich and Innsbruck established in 1776 by Karl Anselm von Thurn und Taxis . Functional posts were located in Peiß and Aibling.

The building was erected in the years 1802/03 under the local postman Johann Evangelist Linmayer (born December 27, 1758 in Harpfing near Schnaitsee ) in the form of a stately four-sided building, after a previous building on March 21, 1802 together with almost all other buildings in the town had fallen victim to a fire. The new inn was considered an important way station in the Inn Valley and housed Tsar Alexander of Russia in 1822 and the Bavarian King Ludwig I in 1839. After Linmayer's death in 1843, the following building owners included the former Landtag member Franz Xaver Lehmayer , the builder of the Wendelsteinbahn Otto von Steinbeis and the Munich architect Wolfgang Haid and, from 1971, the municipality of Flintsbach.

In the years 1982 to 1985, the community carried out an external renovation to secure existing buildings and set up rooms for the local fire department in the building. The aim was to sell the building from 1990 onwards, as a fundamental renovation by the municipality did not seem financially feasible. In 2002 only one of the apartments was rented, the state of construction precluded any further use. The community decided on a comprehensive restoration, the cost of which was estimated at around three million euros. From 2003 ten apartments with a total area of 450 square meters, a community hall, office space, a shooting range, a bakery shop and an integrated fire station were built in the Alte Post. Thanks to support from the citizens, the renovation costs were around 600,000 euros below the estimate, and various government agencies also made grants of around 500,000 euros.

The building is listed under file number D-1-87-131-25 as a monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.
