Old school

The old school in Wehrheim served as a primary school from 1824 to 1969 and since then as a residential building. It is under monument protection as a cultural monument .

Since 1563 the Protestant children of Wehrheim were taught in the school in the "old Schulgass" (today: Gartenstrasse 2). With the Diez Treaty of 1564, the two sovereigns (the Catholic Electorate of Trier and the Protestant Nassau-Dillenburg , later Orange) agreed that the Catholic minority in the Wehrheim office could enjoy religious freedom. The Catholics set up their school in a house in Untergasse (which was demolished in 1879).

With the Nassau School Edict of 1817, the simultaneous school was introduced in the Duchy of Nassau . A new school building (today's address: Schulstrasse 3/5) was built on the outskirts of the village from 1822 to 1824 for the initially 240 pupils in Wehrheim. The stately building in the classicism style has eight axes. The middle four axes are roofed over by a triangular gable.

The building was used as a school until the school reform in 1969. After that, a primary school was set up in the buildings attached to the rear . The old school was converted into six social housing .
