The Alter Markt 13 building in Stralsund

The five-storey building dates from 1876 and was erected in place of a gabled house with lounges that was previously there . This house was bought by the merchant Carl Joachim Bohm in 1814 for 3000 thalers, who sold it in 1859 to the brothers Carl Christian Wilhelm and Carl Johann Friedrich Markwardt for 5600 thalers. After Carl Johann Friedrich Markwardt died on December 13, 1866, his brother ran the materials shop on the ground floor alone.

In 1876 the merchant Friedrich Lönnies owned the building; that year he obtained permission from the city council to erect a new building on this site. The council approved the plans on condition that the corner of the house be blunted. The entrance door to the shop of the newly built house was then built into this jaded corner; the door to the house was on Semlower Strasse . After the city council had approved the construction of a staircase to the front door in 1876 with the condition that it should not have a step protruding into the street, city architect Ernst von Haselberg recorded the exact compliance with the requirement on December 4, 1876.

Lönnies continued to run the material goods store. Later he also received permission to “retail with spirits”. Lönnie's later requests for permission to serve alcohol to cab drivers and landlords were repeatedly rejected with reference to numerous restaurants on the Alter Markt. In 1893 Hans Holsten bought the house and made some changes; so the shop entrance door to the old market was relocated. Arnold Fischer bought the house on August 1, 1919.

The Stralsund Vereinsbrauerei entertained in 1928 on the roof of a neon sign with its slogan "Drink Beer Stralsund" ".

In the early 1990s, the Bertelsmann Club moved to the ground floor, and since 2007 a café . Since 1994 there is a restaurant in the basement.
