Stralsund brewery with restaurant "Alter Fritz"

The Störtebeker BrauManufaktur GmbH is a Founded in 1827 midsize brewery in Stralsund . Until the end of 2011, the brewery operated under the name Stralsunder Brauerei GmbH . The main products are various types of beer from the “Störtebeker” and “Stralsunder” brands. The brewery is a member of the association Die Freie Brauer . In 2018, 200,000 hectoliters of beer were bottled and sold.

history

The Stralsund brewery was founded in 1827 and was purveyor to the court of the Baltic seaside resorts. Due to increasing demand, a new building was built on Greifswalder Chaussee, which was equipped with the latest technology, for example one of the first Linde refrigeration machines.

Brewhouse of the Stralsund brewery

In the post-war years after the Second World War , the company was continued and established as a state-owned company (VEB) in the 1950s . Outdated technology and the poor supply situation with high-quality raw materials led to a decline in quality and so the brewery experienced a qualitative and, after the political change , also an economic decline.

In 1991 the brewery was taken over by the Nordmann group of companies from Wildeshausen for the purchase price of one million DM . As a result, the brewery was expanded to include a restaurant - the “Braugasthaus Alter Fritz”. In 2005, the brewery launched a shelf system on castors from Finland as its own licensed product on the German market, which presents the products in a rollable six-carrier. The production facility was also expanded in 2005. In 2006, the Nordmann family relocated their beverage trade to a commercial property on Rostocker Chaussee . In 2010 the group of companies was split up between the Nordmann brothers. Since then, the Stralsund brewery, together with the related system catering, has been part of Kontor N Vermögensverwaltungs GmbH under the management of Jürgen Nordmann. In May 2010 two more fermentation tanks with a total capacity of 120,000 liters were installed for the production of the “Störtebeker Bernstein-Weizen”.

Since July 2012, the brewery has been a member of the Free Brewers , an association of medium-sized private breweries that have set themselves the goal of preserving beer diversity and beer culture. In 2014 the former transformer house on the premises of the brewery was demolished, creating space for new fermentation and storage tanks. In April 2015, twelve steel tanks almost 14 meters high from the Ziemann company from Bürgstadt were installed in the new fermentation cellar. In July 2016 eight 16 meter high malt silos made of sheet steel were installed and in September 2016 four 14 meter high and 11.7 ton fermentation and storage tanks with a capacity of 1100 hectoliters were installed. The expansion was supplemented in December 2016 by an additional mash kettle, a lauter tun and a wort feed vessel.

Since October 2016, the brewery has also been operating the catering facilities in Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie ; the brewery had already secured the serving rights before the foundation stone was laid.

In July 2017, three more pressure tanks (one 390 hl and two each 300 hl) were installed in addition to the seven existing pressure tanks.

Economic development

Sales, in GDR times still at 100,000 hectoliters per year, fell to 10,000 hectoliters by 1995. From 1998 bottled beer was bottled again. Sales in 2005 were 88,000 hectoliters , 65,000 hectoliters in 2008 and 70,000 hectoliters in 2009. In 2015, sales were 140,000 hectoliters. In 2016, 180,000 hectoliters of Störtebeker beverages were filled and sold. In 2018, 248,000 hectoliters of beer were sold.
