This is a directory of street names in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .

The directory gives the name of the street and (in brackets) the district. An explanation (year of naming, reason) for the street name is given. Because of the large number of streets, the directory was divided according to the first letters of the street names. Under "General" you will find the introduction and explanations of the street names in general.

  • Rabenweg (Lüssower Berg / Am Lüssower Berg)
Named after the raven . Much of the streets in this area were named after native bird species.
  • Raffinerieweg (Franconia / Frankenvorstadt)
Named after the refinery of the former sugar factory. After the sugar factory was closed and demolished in 1996, a residential area was created on the site from 1998. The Raffinerieweg is one of them.
  • Ravensbergerstraße (old town / old town)
The Ravens Berger Straße , which was first mentioned in the early 14th century, was named after the family of Ravensberg . This is one of the oldest families living in Stralsund, who provided several councilors.

  • Reiferbahn (Franconia / Frankenvorstadt)
Named after the ropers ( rope makers ) who lived here in the Middle Ages (also Reeper ). Here the ropes were turned on a track. First named as Reeperberg in 1326 , Reeperbane from 1600 , the Middle Low German spelling was abandoned in 1680 and the street was called the Reiferbahn .
  • Richard-Wagner-Strasse (Knieper / Knieper North)
Named after the German composer Richard Wagner . The street is in the so-called musicians' quarter . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.
  • Richtenberger Chaussee (Tribseer / Schrammsche Mühle or Tribseer Siedlung or Tribseer Wiesen or Lüssower Berg / Am Lüssower Berg)
Named after the city of Richtenberg . This is located in the immediate vicinity of Stralsund and is part of the Vorpommern-Rügen district.
  • Robert-Bosch-Strasse (Langendorfer Berg / Langendorfer Berg)
Named after the German industrialist and engineer Robert Bosch . There is no direct connection to Stralsund. The Robert-Bosch-Straße runs in a pure commercial area where the streets are named after German engineers.
  • Roloff-Möller-Weg (Knieper / Knieper Nord)
Named after Roloff Möller , also Rolof Moller (* 1498, † 1529). At the beginning of the 16th century he was mayor of Stralsund for a short time .
  • Rosengarten (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
In 1918 this road was laid between the Knieperdamm and the Moorteich in order to build villas there. After a long legal battle, the city of Stralsund became the owner. She named the street after the villa of the von Rosen family , which was once located on the corner property and whose history in Stralsund can be traced back to the 17th century.
  • Rosemary Trail (Tribseer / Tribseer Wiesen)
Named after the rosemary plant . The district was built on a former meadow area, so a large part of the streets were named after native plants and herbs.
  • Rostocker Chaussee (Tribseer / Tribseer Vorstadt or Schrammsche Mühle or Grünhufe / Stadtkoppel or Freienlande or Langendorfer Berg / Langendorfer Berg)
It was created as Am Landweg nach Rostock and renamed Rostocker Chaussee during the street name reform in 1869 . On the Chaussee, the hospital known today as the West Hospital with a spacious park was inaugurated in 1912. The Stralsund-Tribsees railway line has been crossing the Chaussee since 1900 .
The Rostocker Chaussee was one of the main roads in Stralsund and leads west to Rostock . With the construction of the bypass, this part of the federal highway 105 was rededicated to the city.
  • Rotdornweg (South / Andershof)
Named after the local hawthorn . In this part of the city, the streets are mostly named after native plants.
  • Rudenstrasse (Franconia / Dänholm)
Named after the island of Ruden , which is located in the Greifswalder Bodden south of the island of Rügen .
  • Rudolf-Breitscheid-Strasse (Tribseer / Tribseer Vorstadt)
The street was laid out under the name Steinwichstraße ( Lambert Steinwich was mayor in Stralsund) at the end of the 19th century on the section between Mariakronstraße and Ketelhotstraße . In 1930 the street was extended beyond Ketelhotstraße. Here let the GAGFAH houses built. In 1931 the name was first changed to Tiergartenstrasse , and in 1938 the street, which was again extended, was renamed to Prinz-Moritz-Strasse . The Prinz-Moritz-Kaserne had previously been built for the First Battalion of the 92nd Infantry Regiment near them, at today's Platz des Friedens . After the Second World War , the street was renamed again, this time after the Social Democrat and Reichstag member Rudolf Breitscheid , who, however, had no connections with Stralsund.
  • Rudolf-Diesel-Strasse (Langendorfer Berg / Langendorfer Berg)
Named after the German engineer and inventor Rudolf Diesel . There is no direct connection to Stralsund. The Rudolf-Diesel-Straße runs in a pure commercial area where the streets are named after German engineers.
  • Rudolf-Virchow-Strasse (Knieper / Knieper North)
Named after the Pomeranian- born doctor and politician Rudolf Virchow . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.
The street was laid out in 1960 as Johannes-R.-Becher- Strasse . Becher works include the national anthem of the GDR "Rising from Ruins". After the political change in 1989/1990, the street was renamed on April 1, 1994.
  • Rungestrasse (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
Named after the painter Philipp Otto Runge . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.
