This is a directory of street names in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .

The directory gives the name of the street and (in brackets) the district. An explanation (year of naming, reason) for the street name is given. Because of the large number of streets, the directory was divided according to the first letters of the street names. Under "General" you will find the introduction and explanations of the street names in general.

  • Veghevur
    Former street name, see Mönchstraße
  • Velgaster Weg (Tribseer / Tribseer settlement)
    Named after the town of Velgast near Stralsund .
  • Gilded street

  • Vilmer Weg (Franconia / Dänholm)
    Named after the island of Vilm located south of the island of Rügen . The island is part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park .
  • Vogelsangstrasse (Grünhufe / Vogelsang)
  • Vogelwiese (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt or Knieper Nord)
    The bird meadow was named after the traditional bird shooting that was held here centuries ago . This annual event was a social highlight for the Stralsund citizens.

  • Von-Gosen-Strasse (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
    Named after the Stralsund councilor Justquinus von Gosen († 1636).
  • Von-Löwen-Strasse (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
    Named after the Swedish Governor General Count Axel von Löwen . He bequeathed several thousand books of French literature to the Stralsund city library in 1761 . His Löwensches Palais , built at the intersection of Ossenreyerstraße and Heilgeiststraße , fell victim to the night of bombing on October 6, 1944. Today there is a functional building with the same name based on the original.
  • Von-Petersson-Strasse (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)
    Named after Friedrich Gustav von Petersson (* 1766, † 1809). The Swedish officer fought alongside Baron Ferdinand von Schill against the French occupiers and was executed by them in front of the Kniepertor . At the Kniepertor there is a memorial plaque and a memorial stone donated by Ehrenfried von Storch .
