Until the reform of the street names in 1869, Mönchstrasse was also divided into sections. The section between Knieperwall and today's Schillstrasse was called Am Hospitaler Tor , which indicates a city gate that was demolished in the second half of the 19th century. Between Schillstrasse and Mühlenstrasse they were called Am Ramsberg , although the name refers to the whores who live here . Incidentally, this is where the highest point in the old town is located, 10.7 meters above sea level. The section between Mühlenstrasse and Ravensberger Strasse was called Veghevur ( purgatory ), which indicated a stone erected here on which criminals were displayed. Mönchstrasse was also between Ravensbergerstrasse and Heilgeiststrasse earlier. Then, up to Böttcherstraße , the section was called Auf dem Hüx (hill); A gate of honor was built on the eponymous hill to greet important guests. The Haakstrate formed the end of the Neuer Markt .
