This is a directory of street names in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .

The directory gives the name of the street and (in brackets) the district. An explanation (year of naming, reason) for the street name is given. Because of the large number of streets, the directory was divided according to the first letters of the street names. Under "General" you will find the introduction and explanations of the street names in general.

In the 1860s, the port islands were raised. As part of this measure, a number of new streets were laid, including the street Neue Badenstrasse . This street forms the extension of Badenstraße on the Stralsund harbor island.

The new market from a bird's eye view
The new market was the center of the new town of Stralsund. When the two parts of the city grew together, the markets were named to differentiate between the old market and the new market. The Neuer Markt was first mentioned as novum forum in 1285. During the siege of Brandenburg in 1678, the town hall of the Neustadt burned down , and the Swedes' armory, which was newly built on this property in 1708 , no longer stands. The Neuer Markt was in the GDR on 22 April 1970 on the occasion of the birthday of Lenin in Lenin Square renamed. After the fall of the Wall it got its traditional name back.
