Memorial in memory of the Jewish community in Aussig

The Old Jewish Cemetery in Ústí nad Labem (German Aussig), a town in the north of Bohemia in the Czech Republic , was established in the 1860s.

history

After the foundation of the "Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Aussig" in the 1860s, a Jewish cemetery was set up on site , which was used for around four decades. From 1895 a part of the general city cemetery was available for the deceased Jewish community members.

In the vicinity of the former old Jewish cemetery, where there is now a park, the city had a memorial erected in 2005 : a granite Star of David protruding from the ground is intended to commemorate the former large Jewish community .
