memorial

The Old Jewish Cemetery in Tábor (German Tabor ), a Czech town in the South Bohemian Region , was established in 1634. The Jewish cemetery has been a protected cultural monument since 1988 .

The old Jewish cemetery is 300 meters southwest of the Bechyn Gate at the end of the Park Pod Kotnovem . The last burials took place there around 1893. Due to a lack of space, a new cemetery was laid out in the 1880s .

During the German occupation, the cemetery was leveled in 1941. Only two gravestones have survived: the cemetery attendant converted one stone into a stone bench, and a second stone was found by chance during maintenance work in 1972.

On October 23, 1955, a memorial for the victims of the Second World War was unveiled. Since 2002 a memorial by the Prague sculptor Karel Peřina has been commemorating the victims of the Shoah .
