Old office building in Hüsten

The old office building in Hüsten is a listed building in the Arnsberg district of Hüsten from 1910.

History and architecture

The office of Hüsten was formed in its modern form in 1837 from sixteen parishes from the former parishes of Hüsten, Enkhausen and Voßwinkel . For a long time there was no real administrative center. The official business was often done in an inn. In the course of industrialization, especially through the Hüsten trade union, and the associated growth in population, administrative activity increased and the need for a new, representative official seat grew. The building was driven primarily by the head of the office Thüsing (1909-1919) immediately after he took office and was inaugurated in 1910.

The two-storey building was built in the neo-renaissance style with some elements of art nouveau . Noteworthy design features are the left side risalit with corner blocks, gable roof shield and a staggered four-axis window structure as well as the polygonal corner tower. The arched portal has a loosening effect.

Even after the founding of the town of Neheim-Hüsten (1941) and the town of Arnsberg (1975) nothing changed in terms of its function as an administrative building. Most recently, the Arnsberg Youth Welfare Office was housed there. After a period of vacancy, the building was sold to a private owner, who converted it into residential use taking into account the preservation of historical monuments.

On the building there is a plaque in honor of the bailiff and opponent of National Socialism Rudolf Gunst . In 1983 the building was included in the list of Arnsberg architectural monuments .
