The old town hall in Flein was built in 1604 and increased in the 19th century. The building, which was restored after being severely damaged in the Second World War, is one of the art and cultural monuments in the city and district of Heilbronn. In 1987 the administration moved into the new town hall .

history

The building in the center of Flein bears a coat of arms stone from 1604 with St. Vitus in the cauldron , some stone carvings and the first letters of the former mayor Jakob Haag (JH) and the lawyer Christian Reuschlin (CR). According to this stone, the year 1604 is considered to be the year of construction of the town hall. In 1834/35 the building was extended and raised for the first time. During a visit to the community by the Königliche Oberamt Heilbronn in April 1893, the authority complained about “intolerable conditions” with regard to the resignations and offices. On July 24, 1895, the local council and citizens' committee decided to renovate the building, which cost 5,164.04 marks.

After the First World War there were plans to add floors to the building, but this was not implemented for financial reasons. A facade renovation was made possible in 1931 by a generous donation from the widow of the Löhl municipal council.

Until the Second World War, the village fire department store was on the first floor of the house. In the bell tower of the town hall, which was designed as a roof turret, once hung a bell cast by Johann Daniel Rohr in 1729 , with which d'r Schütz or the official messenger could be ordered and which was also rung at property auctions. It had to be removed on February 24, 1942 for use in the Second World War.

The town hall was almost completely destroyed by artillery fire in April 1945. The administration then moved to the former Kleindienst wine tavern at Erlachstrasse 9, where two larger rooms were shared with the savings and loan fund and the winegrowers' cooperative. In its first meeting after the war on March 26, 1946, the local council decided to rebuild the building true to the original. Since the reconstruction took place in the time before the currency reform, many building materials and work were paid for in kind, especially with wine. On September 20, 1948, the first floor of the rebuilt building with the mayor's office, registry and council meeting room was ready for occupancy. A few weeks later, the ground floor was occupied by the ticket office, community maintenance and the state police and initially also used by the savings and loan office and the winegrowers' cooperative. The land registry moved into rooms on the top floor, where the old registry and two holding cells were also located. The costs for the reconstruction amounted to 18,922.85 RM and 45,164.25 DM.

After the Sparkasse and the Weingärtnergenossenschaft moved into their own rooms, the conference room was moved to the ground floor. Later on, community council meetings were held in the new schoolhouse, the Protestant community hall or the community hall. However, there was still a lack of space in the town hall, so the community acquired additional buildings in Kellergasse 3 and Heilbronner Straße 5 in order to outsource parts of the administration there. In the 1960s, floor scales were set in front of the town hall , and there was no sidewalk here.

From 1963 onwards there were considerations to build a new town hall, but this project had to be postponed for several years in favor of the urgently needed community hall. After a lengthy planning process from the mid-1970s, the new town hall was finally built in the neighborhood from 1984 to 1987 .
