An old material collection center (ASZ) is a recycling center in Austria for the separate collection of old materials. In Vienna the ASZ are called a dung place . With a few exceptions, disposal is free of charge.

target

The aim of an ASZ is to collect the types of waste as separately as possible in order to achieve a high level of recycling .

Types of waste

70 different types of waste are collected, which are divided into 5 groups:

  • Old materials (glass, plastic, metal, paper, other old materials)
  • Electrical devices (old devices, batteries)
  • Problem materials (substances containing oil and solvents, laboratory and chemical waste and other hazardous waste)
  • Other waste (non-hazardous substances)
  • Packaging (glass, plastic, metal, cardboard, other)

Charges for private individuals include a. Tires and medical waste. For traders, the disposal of problematic substances and plastics is also chargeable.

Federal states

Lower Austria

In Lower Austria there are waste material collection points in all municipalities. However, this is not organized in the same way everywhere. In some communities, for example, the plastic is sometimes picked up from the houses periodically, in others these waste materials are collected via so-called recycling islands. Glass and packaging metals such as cans are also collected.

There are 435 waste material collection centers in the state. In 2007, 245,770 tons of old materials were collected. The centers are organized by 22 regional waste associations in which 555 municipalities are involved. The cities of St. Pölten, Krems and Klosterneuburg each have their own organization. For their part, they are all members of the Lower Austrian Waste Management Association, which was founded in 1993.

Upper Austria

In Upper Austria there has been a dense network of 180 centers today (2008) since the 1990s. All districts are on the O.Ö. Landes-Abfallverwertungsunternehmen AG (OÖ LAVU AG), which organizes the planning, management and personnel of the ASZ as well as the logistics and recycling of waste materials. A recycling rate of the old materials of up to 90% is achieved.

In 2007, 197,000 tons of waste were collected in Upper Austria . This corresponds to an increase of 6.3% compared to 2006.

Styria

Waste management in Styria is divided into 17 waste management associations that operate around 400 centers. Municipalities without a fixed ASZ have mobile centers available. The first ASZ were founded in 1991.

Vienna

MA 48 has had around 19 manure spaces in Vienna since 1988 . They are primarily intended for the disposal of household waste, not for the disposal of commercial waste or when vacating an apartment.

In addition to the types of waste listed above, building rubble (wall parts, plaster, tiles ...) and bulky waste (furniture, carpets, windows ...) are also accepted in Vienna.

As a special feature, the manure place at the Rinter tent is also open on Sundays and public holidays.
