As Aluguer ( Cape Verdean , to hire ') is called on the Cape Verde widespread taxis . Usually they are open flatbed trucks with two benches or minibuses . In some cases there are jeeps with the passengers sitting on the loading area.

In contrast to normal taxis, most Aluguers run on fixed routes. They can be stopped at any point along the route. Aluguers can also be rented completely for tours. If there is still space, other passengers can still get on along the way. In contrast to individual taxes, the travel costs at Aluguers are only around a tenth. For this, however, users sometimes have to accept longer waiting times. In the villages, the Aluguers often drive several times around the blocks and into the side streets in order to lure passengers by honking or shouting - this often delays the departure.

Since there are no bus connections in large parts of the Cape Verde Islands apart from the two cities of Praia and Mindelo , the Aluguers represent the basis of local public transport . Large parts of the population are dependent on the use of the Aluguers, as they usually do not have their own vehicle .
