Shared taxi
A shared taxi is internationally a special type of taxi in which the provider has a fixed start and end point (for example the connection between two cities). Depending on the agreement, the end point can be determined by the passenger, for example from the airport to the place of residence of the passengers. Usually minibuses with (officially) 7–10 seats are used, small cars with four seats are rarely used. There is a difference between the shared taxi and the public transport call-collective taxi (AST).
Worldwide distribution
The form of a shared taxi is common in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
In Africa (except North Africa) it is called bush taxi or, according to the French translation, taxi (de) Brousse , in East Africa Matatu and in Tanzania Daladala . This type of transport can vary within the localities. The price is negotiated before departure. In such a shared taxi, you can usually get off at will on the prescribed route. However, boarding is only possible at the starting point and no longer within the route section.
In Latin America the names of the shared taxis are " Colectivos " or Publico . They are an inexpensive alternative to the "normal" taxi.
In Russia and neighboring areas, shared taxis are known as marshrutka . The most common type of car there is the GAZelle , a minibus made in the country.
Private shared taxi services could develop wherever local public transport does not exist or is poorly developed. In some cases, for example in Johannesburg , the shared taxi owners are organized and massive against the establishment of public bus routes because they fear for their livelihood.
In Germany , a shared taxi with 100 electric mini-buses and 400 permanent drivers was introduced in Hamburg in 2019 with the Moia driver service, a VW subsidiary. 500 Moia buses are planned by the end of the year. It is based on the ride sharing system, with an app for mobile phones. There is a cooperation with the local public transport.
