Albrecht II of Regenstein (* around 1293 ; † 1349 ) was Count von Regenstein . He is falsely believed to have been a robber baron .

Life

Albrecht II was the son of Count Ulrich III. von Regenstein in Heimburg (1287–1322) and Countess Sophie von Anhalt , became regent of the county in 1310 and after 1319 married Countess Oda von Falkenstein , before 1337 Countess Jutta von Anhalt-Zerbst , daughter of Albrecht I ; he had 13 siblings. One reason for the violent clashes between the Regenstein Counts and the Bishop of Halberstadt was the dispute over the legacy of the County of Falkenstein in the Harz Mountains .

According to legend, he was held in the Quedlinburg town hall from July 7, 1336 to March 20, 1338 in a wooden box ( robbery count box ), which can be viewed in the castle museum.

In the spring of 1336 there was a dispute between Albrecht II von Regenstein and the Bishop of Halberstadt. Albrecht then attacked the Quedlinburger Feldflur and occupied the Neustadt. After various fights, he was caught in July (near Gersdorfer Castle). On March 22, 1338, after lengthy arbitration negotiations , the atonement was issued in which the Regensteiners recognized the Bishop of Halberstadt as the patron of Quedlinburg, whose Neustadt had become the Regenstein fief in 1300 due to lack of money.

In 1349 he was murdered by an assassin hired by Bishop Albrecht II of Halberstadt .
