Alumel

Alumel is a magnetic nickel-based alloy consisting of 90.7% nickel , 3.1% manganese , 4.2% aluminum and 2.0% silicon (both atomic percent ).

Alumel is often used in an Alumel- Chromel connection as a thermocouple pair of type K for temperature measurement of 1000 ° C (briefly also 1300 ° C) with 41 µV / K.

To measure the temperature, an electrical voltage is generated at the free ends of the two interconnected conductors in the event of a temperature difference along the conductors due to the Seebeck effect . The temperature can be determined from this based on the physical properties.
