Alverich von Kerkow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alverich von Kerkow (Latin Alvericus de Kerkowe ; † after 1248 ) was court judge in Salzwedel in the Altmark .

Life

Alverich was first mentioned in a document from Count Heinrich von Anhalt in 1225 for the still underage margrave brothers Johann I and Otto III. named as the highest ranking knight in third place of the witnesses. This is also the first documented mention of the family and place of origin Kerkau bei Salzwedel. In the following years it appeared several times in margravial documents in the Altmark. In 1247 Alverich was appointed court judge in Salzwedel. In the following year he left the hospital in Perwen with the margrave widow Mathilde and other knights land. After that he was no longer mentioned.

His sons Ludwig, Gebhard and Friedrich were also margravial vassals in the Altmark and repeatedly appeared on the witness list of margravial documents. The bishop Ruotger von Kerkow was probably also a relative. There are some indications that Bishop Heinrich von Havelberg was also a son.
