Alwin Lorgus

Alwin Lorgus (born November 9, 1852 in Stralsund , † March 18, 1920 in Eisenach ) was a royal gardening inspector and pomologist . From 1905 he was the chairman of the German Pomologists Association and later for many years chairman of the successor association, the German Fruit Growing Society (DOG). In addition, he was a member of the Pomeranian Geographical Society of Greifswald and a member of the board of the Reich Association for German Horticulture.

Life

Around 1878 he took over his father's gardening and tree nursery . In 1890 Lorgus bought the house at Ossenreyerstrasse No. 41 in Stralsund, where he ran a seed shop. In 1902 he moved to Neustrelitz .

Lorgus was married and had a daughter and eight sons, of whom Gustav Adolf died in 1914 and the youngest son Heinrich in 1917 in the First World War .

The currant variety 'In memory of Lorgus' was named after him.
