The street Am Pletzerturm in the district town of Düren ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) is an old historic inner-city street .

location

The street leads from Waisenhausstraße to Kölnstraße . On the eastern side of the street is the listed Pletzergasse tower .

The street used to be within the city fortifications of Düren . The main post office building is located in the area where it joins Kölnstrasse.

history

Pletzergasse was mentioned as early as 1355 and at that time led from Oberstraße in an easterly direction to the former Jesuit college, then turned at right angles to Kölnstraße. There is disagreement about the origin of the name. On the one hand Pletzer is derived from Plei , a place on the street, on the other hand the name is derived from Pletzer (inferior meat, sausage made from meat waste ).

The former Pletzergasse was named in the piece running parallel to Hohenzollernstrasse during the reconstruction after the Second World War in Am Pletzerturm . The name was changed by a city council resolution on May 28, 1951.
