Count Arnold Galeen receives devastating news from his doctor: He only has a few weeks to live. Galeen goes back to the ancestral castle of his ancestors to await death there. The count has enjoyed life to the full, but an inner voice tells him that the best is yet to come. When death appears, he grants the Moribunden a request for a new life. Full of energy, the count, stimulated by new spirits, throws himself into his new, passionate life ... and makes all the mistakes of the past again - just as death prophesied him before.
Production notes
Am Tor des Leben was created in the final phase of the First World War in the Sascha Film Atelier in Vienna and was premiered on December 20, 1918. In the Berlin Mozart Hall, the film started under the title in June 1919. The length of the four-act play in Vienna was around 1,600 meters, other game lengths also existed.
