Amado Carrillo Fuentes

Amado Carrillo Fuentes (called El Señor de los Cielos , "The Lord of the Skies", born December 17, 1956 in Guamúchil ; † July 4, 1997 ) was one of the most wanted criminals in Mexico , around whom numerous legends are entwined to this day.

He founded the Juárez cartel , of which he was the boss until his death in 1997. He is said to have transported his goods - mostly cocaine  - in his own fleet of Boeings 727 and was more successful than anyone else. This is also why he was considered by some to be the legitimate successor of the Colombian Pablo Escobar . The US Drug Enforcement Administration DEA , according to he is at his best up to 200 million US dollars have earned weekly. To avoid his persecutors, Fuentes wanted to undergo a facial operation in Mexico City , of which he died on July 4, 1997.

His body rests in a marble palace in his birthplace, Guamúchil . However, many Mexicans believe that Fuentes only faked his demise and that it continues to live under a new identity and appearance. A character based on the person of Fuentes appears in Steven Soderbergh's film Traffic - Power of the Cartel on the Edge.
