Amalia de la Vega

Amalia de la Vega Fernández , real name María Celia Martínez Fernández , (born January 19, 1919 in Melo , † August 25, 2000 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan singer .

The Creole singer, whose repertoire included milongas and various folk rhythms, released more than a hundred songs and dozens of albums on the labels Sondor, Antar, Orfeo and Telefunken. She played an important role in the context of the Rioplatensian music. She found her final resting place in the Buceo cemetery in Montevideo, the city where she spent most of her life. In Parque de la Hispanidad recalls the Festival de Durazno ( Festival Internacional de Folklore a bust) to them.
