Amanda Simpson (born Mitchell Simpson March 26, 1961 in Chicago , Illinois ) is the first transsexual to hold a high position in the American administration.

It was in January 2010 by the Obama - Government for Senior Technical Adviser in the Ministry of Commerce of the United States appointed and tasked to check items out that they can not be misused for military purposes. Conservative circles of the population and politics protested against her appointment.

Amanda Simpson came from a Jewish family in California . Even in her youth, she experienced herself as living in the wrong sex. Nevertheless, she chose a typically male career path and also fathered a son. In 1983 she received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from Harvey Mudd College , and in 1988 her Master of Science in Engineering from California State University, Northridge . In 2000 she changed her first name from Mitchell to Amanda. In 2001 she earned an MBA from the University of Arizona . In 2004 she ran unsuccessfully as a Democratic candidate for the 26th District in the Arizona House of Representatives . Simpson was a test pilot at Hughes Aircraft and head of a missile manufacturing company. She is also a member of the board of directors of the National Center for Transgender Equality for transsexual rights.
