Amarena cherry

As black cherries is called in Germany, the Italian specialty black cherries in syrup . Amarena is one of the three main types of sour cherries in Italy .

The Amarena cherries are mainly served as an accompaniment to desserts and ice cream . A well-known Italian ice cream specialty is the amarena cup. In addition, amarena cherries with and without syrup are used in the production of cakes, tarts, pralines, yoghurt and other desserts.

The dark cherries are pickled in a heavily sweetened syrup, which consists mainly of its own juice, sugar and a little citric acid. The other ingredients, especially the flavors, are a trade secret, depending on the manufacturer. If you make amarena cherries yourself, you usually use almond and vanilla flavors, among other things by adding amaretto .
