Amberley Snyder

Amberley Snyder (born January 19, 1991 ) is an American rodeo rider and motivational speaker . She has been paraplegic since an accident in 2010 , but is still successfully continuing her career as an athlete.

Life before the accident

Amberley Snyder was born in California to Tina and Cory Snyder. She is the second of five siblings: Ashley, JC, Aubrey and Autumn. She started riding at the age of 3 and competed in the barrel race from the age of 7 . Amberley Snyder won the 2009 All-Around Cowgirl World Championship in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association and was Utah's Representative in the Future Farmers of America organization from 2009 to 2010 .

Accident 2010

On January 10, 2010, Amberley Snyder was on her way to the Denver Stock Show . After a fuel stop in Rawlins , Wyoming , she forgot to put her seat belt back on. Less than 15 km beyond this stop, when she wanted to look at the map, she drifted into the oncoming lane and corrected to the other side. Her truck came off the road and overturned seven times. Amberley Snyder was thrown out of the truck and into a fence post. The lowest thoracic vertebra was shattered, resulting in paralysis from the waist down.

Rehabilitation and career continuation

With the help of physiotherapy and a seat belt on her saddle, Amberley Snyder managed to return to equestrian sports and rodeo in 2011. She moved from Snow College to Utah State University , where she became captain of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association team. In 2014 she received the Shane Drury "Nothin 'But Try" grant.

In 2015 Amberley Snyder received a Fan Exemption for RFD-TV's The American Rodeo at AT&T Stadium in Arlington , Texas . She achieved a time of 15.3 seconds on her horse Power in the Barrel Race and was only 0.6 seconds slower than the winner. In 2016 Amberley Snyder made it into the top 5 of the Rocky Mountain Pro Rodeo Association, gained Women's Professional Rodeo Association approval and now competes in the Wilderness Circuit.

Amberley Snyder is a well-known motivational speaker in the United States . She posts a "Wheelchair Wednesday" video on her social media channel every week to draw attention to the daily challenges of life in a wheelchair .

Amberley Snyder published an illustrated children's book Walk Ride Rodeo, about overcoming resistance. Their lives and in particular the accident and the subsequent rehabilitation were 2019 from Netflix under the title Walk Ride Rodeo (dt. Run Riding Rodeo filmed). She herself performed all of the stunts that played after the accident, while her younger sister Autumn performed the stunts from before the accident.
