Ambohimahavelona is a municipality and city in Madagascar on the right bank of the Onilahy River . It is located in the Atsimo-Andrefana region in the Toliara province . In 2001, an estimated 13,000 inhabitants lived in the municipality.

There are primary and secondary schools in the city. The majority of the population lives from the primary sector . The main crops are maize and rice , and cane sugar and tomatoes are also grown . 15% of the population are employed.

In 2009 a drinking water supply was installed to enable the population to improve hygiene. The Swiss solidarit'eau Suisse built a 30 cubic meter cistern, four kilometers of water pipes and a total of 16 laundry washing areas with a budget of 93,000 Swiss francs . Currently, 1,350 people in two villages and three schools can benefit from this. The facility will probably be expanded to include latrines and showers in the next few years. The municipality of Münsingen in the canton of Bern has been involved in the financing of this and similar projects since 1991.
