Firmin Didot

Firmin Didot actually Ambroise Firmin Didot (born April 14, 1764 in Paris , † April 24, 1836 in Mesnil-sur-l'Estrée , Département Eure , France ) was a French typographer and writer .

Didot, the second son of François Ambroise Didot, came from a printer dynasty and received numerous typographic awards. In 1798 his father took over the management of the family-owned type foundry . He developed the stereotype , the typographic system of measurement (with the Didot point still valid in Europe today ) and the Didot font .

He also wrote plays and worked as a publisher, deputy and translator.
