America's Best Beaches

America's Best Beaches is designed by the American geoscientist Stephen Leatherman alias Dr. Beach study published since 1991 of the best beaches in the United States .

Leatherman publishes its rating of approximately 650 beaches in the United States on Memorial Day annually . For the evaluation of the beaches Leatherman has put together a catalog of 50 criteria, according to which he evaluates each beach. Each criterion is evaluated using a 5-pole rating scale, which ranges from “very bad” (1 point) to “completely satisfied” (5 points). The theoretically achievable maximum number of points is 250 points.

The criteria are divided into five groups:

  • Water quality
  • Sand quality
  • safety
  • Quality of the environment
  • services offered

So that the best beaches do not win several years in a row, the best beaches are not included in the ranking in the 10 following years.
