Sheila Sherwood

Sheila Sherwood ( Sheila Hilary Sherwood, née Parkin ; born October 22, 1945 in Sheffield ) is a former British long jumper .

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, she came in 13th place. In 1966, starting for England , she won silver at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston and was seventh at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest , and in 1967 she won the Universiade .

The following year she married the hurdler John Sherwood . At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, she won the silver medal with 6.68 m behind the Romanian Viorica Viscopoleanu , who set a world record with 6.82 m, and in front of Tatyana Talysheva from the Soviet Union (6.66 m).

A gold medal at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 with her personal best of 6.73 m was followed by fourth place at the 1971 European Championship in Helsinki, ninth place at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and seventh place at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch.

She was English champion three times indoors (1962, 1963, 1965) and four times outdoors (1968, 1969, 1971, 1972).
