American Nurses Association
The American Nurses Association (ANA) is a national American professional association based in Silver Spring, Maryland that represents the interests of health care professionals and promotes and supports the advancement of professional health and nursing . The association based in Silver Spring, Maryland has its origins in the professional organization Nurses Associated Alumnae , founded in 1896 and renamed the American Nurses Association in 1911. The ANA represents the interests of around 3.1 million registered nurses (nurses with academic training and a corresponding state license) who are organized in 54 national groups. In addition to several regular publications, including the association magazine The American Nurse , the professional association has three sub-organizations
- The American Academy of Nursing , which deals with the further development of nursing in research and teaching, as well as the health-political aspects of nursing.
- The American Nurses Foundation , which has a charitable and philanthropic purpose.
- The American Nurses Credentialing Center , which is engaged in awarding and developing various subject-specific diplomas and licenses
