The American Seafoods Group (ASG) is a US-American group of companies in the fishing industry with headquarters in Seattle . At its core, it consists of the two operating companies American Seafoods Company and American Marine Ingredients . The American Seafoods Company was founded in Seattle in 1988 by the Norwegian entrepreneur Kjell Inge Røkke , the American Seafoods Group was founded in 1999. Today the group is one of the largest fish companies in North America and the world.
The main company American Seafood Company (ASC) is vertically integrated , it encompasses the entire value chain from catching to processing and distribution logistics to global marketing. In the fishing grounds off Alaska and in the Northwest Pacific, ASC operates with the six fishing and processing vessels American Dynasty, American Triumph, Northern Eagle , Northern Jaeger, Ocean Rover and Katie Ann. ASC is the market leader in catching and processing Pacific pollack (Alaskan pollock) from the eastern Bering Sea ; the company catches about 45% of the US total catch of this species. Another major species is the Pacific hake , for which ASC is responsible for around 50% of the total US catch quota. Also, yellowfin sole and Pacific cod fished. Processing products include frozen fillet blocks, surimi , roe , fish meal and fish oil . Over 1000 people are employed (as of 2015).
The younger branch of the group, American Marine Ingredients , develops new products for food, animal feed and cosmetics manufacturers as well as other industrial sectors.
