The American Standard Companies, Inc. was an American manufacturer of air conditioning systems, bathroom and kitchen furniture, as well as vehicle control technology with headquarters in Piscataway in the US state of New Jersey .

In July 2007, American Standard and Bain Capital announced that Bain Capital would acquire American Standard's bathroom and kitchen products division for $ 1.745 billion. The takeover was completed by December 2007. On November 5th, 2007, the new company name, Ideal Standard International SA, was announced by Bain Capital.

Since 1969 to American Standard owned subsidiary WABCO was August 1, 2007 spun off and has since been listed on the NYSE under the symbol WBC .

After the sale and spin-off, American Standard Companies merged with the subsidiary Trane Inc. and was taken over by the Ingersoll-Rand group on June 5, 2008 .

The American Radiator Company was formed as early as 1892 from the merger of three companies . This was renamed in 1929 to today's name American Standard , as this name had meanwhile established itself in day-to-day business. In 1929 the American Standard Companies went public. WABCO was taken over in 1968 and Trane Inc. in 1984 .

On February 1, 2007 it was announced that the company would be split into three parts. The area of ​​installation accessories for kitchens and bathrooms was sold and has been operating as American Standard Brands ever since . WABCO was spun off and became independent. The American Standard Companies changed their name to Trane Inc. and was taken over by the Ingersoll-Rand group in December 2007 .

In 2012, the American Radiator Company was inducted into the North American Railway Hall of Fame in the North America: Communities, Business, Government and Organizations category.
