from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amichai ( Hebrew עמיחיfor "My People Lives") is an Israeli settlement in the Mateh Benjamin regional administration in the West Bank , the construction of which was decided in March 2017 by the Israeli government. It is Israel's first official settlement since 1992.

location

Amichai is located in the northern West Bank , around 30 kilometers north of Jerusalem and 50 kilometers east of Tel Aviv . To the west of Amichai are the two Israeli settlements Shilo and Shvut Rachel, to the east of Amichai are the illegal outposts of Adei Ad, Ahija, Esch Kodesch and Keida.

Construction work 2017

Emergence

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised the residents of the Amona illegal outpost, which was evacuated in January 2017, that a new settlement would be built. His government approved the construction in March 2017. Construction work began in June 2017 and the first houses were completed in February 2018. The first residents (over 30 families) moved to Amichai in March 2018.

The settlement is to be home to up to 1,100 families in the future. In addition, there are plans to unite the illegal Adei Ad outpost, one kilometer away, with Amichai and thus indirectly legalize it under Israeli law.
