Map of the Hut Point Peninsula with Pram Point |
The Pram Point (English for Prahmspitze ) is a low and rounded headland on the southeast side of the Hut Point Peninsula in the southwest of the Antarctic Ross Island . It is located around 2.5 km northeast of Cape Armitage and is now the location of the New Zealand Scott Base .
Participants in the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904), led by British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott, discovered them. Scott named it so because a prahm was used on the research trip to get across the open water surface from the southern tip of the Hut Point Peninsula to the Ross Ice Shelf in the Antarctic summer months .
