Amir Eshel

Amir Eshel (* 1959 in Jaffa ) is an Israeli general. He was from 2012 to 2017 commander of the Israeli Air Force with the rank of major general .

life and career

Amir Eshel is the son of Holocaust survivors . He studied economics at Auburn University in Alabama and political science at Haifa University . He has been a member of the Israeli Air Force since 1977 and completed his pilot training in 1979. As a pilot of an A-4 Skyhawk , he flew missions in the Lebanon War in 1982 . He then commanded 201st Squadron One at the Tel Nof military airfield . Eshel took part in Operation The Fruits of Wrath in 1996 with an F-4E Phantom Kurnass flown from there . In 2003 he flew over the area of the Auschwitz concentration camp as the commander of a formation of three F-15s . In 2004 he finally became Chief of Staff of the Israeli Air Force. He also held this position during the 2006 Lebanon War . From 2012 to 2017 he was Aluf (Major General) in command of the IAF .

Eshel is married and has three children.
