Amira Nimer

Amira Nimer (* 1957 in Brčko ) is a German writer from Bosnia-Herzegovina . She is considered to be the representative of Serbo-Croatian literature in Germany.

Life

Nimer was born in 1957 in Brčko, what was then Yugoslavia . In 1976 she moved to (West) Berlin. For decades she has worked as an employee in the public service in Berlin . In addition, she works as a language translator for Arabic and formerly Serbo-Croatian languages.

Characteristics of the work

Amira Nimer is one of the representatives of German-speaking authors of Southeast European origin in Germany. In short stories and novels that seem autobiographical, she prefers to depict everyday events that include national, cultural and individual constants and behavior as well as cultural exchange , migration and social change . The focus is on situations that result from the contrast between commonality and isolation, from traditions and their change, the growing dependence on technology or the broken relationship with nature. Amira Nimer writes in both German and the formerly Serbo-Croatian language. Many of her short stories have appeared in various Bosnian cultural magazines.
