The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) is a stock exchange in Amman ( Jordan ). The exchange is a full member of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges and the World Federation of Exchanges .

History

Long before the Jordanian securities market was established, public holding companies were founded and their shares were traded. By the early 1930s, the Jordanian public already owned and traded stocks. The Arab Bank was the first public company that was founded in 1930 in Jordan, followed by Jordan Tobacco and Cigarettes (1931), Jordan Electric Power (1938) and Jordan Cement Factories (1951). The first corporate bonds were issued in the early 1960s. In 1976 a modern stock exchange was founded.

Today's ASE was founded in March 1999 as a not-for-profit private organization with administrative and financial autonomy. It is authorized to act as an exchange for trading in securities. The exchange is managed by a seven-person board of directors. A Chief Executive Officer oversees the daily tasks and reports to the Board of Directors. The ASE members are Jordan's brokerage firms.

The Amman Stock Exchange became a state-owned company on February 20, 2017 under the name The Amman Stock Exchange Company (ASE Company) .
