Ammonium sulfate nitrate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ammonium sulphate nitrate ( ASA ) is the most widely used sulfur-nitrogen fertilizer . It consists of 26% nitrogen and, depending on the manufacturer, 13 to 15% sulfur in the form of sulfate.

properties

Ammonium sulphate nitrate is a colorless, yellowish or reddish-brown powder or granulate (particle size range 2.0 to 5.0 mm). This contains a double salt of ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate (2NH 4 NO 3 · (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ) with 26% pure nitrogen; 19% of the nitrogen is present as ammonium nitrogen and 7% as nitrate nitrogen. ASA is easily soluble in water and has a chemically acidic effect in the soil. It is easy to store, but must be adequately protected from moisture.

effect

In order to ensure that the plants are supplied with sulfur, mineral fertilizers that contain easily absorbable forms of sulfur (in the form of sulfate) and nitrogen (in the form of nitrate) are particularly suitable. Sulfur deficiency occurs particularly on shallow and light soils in crops that require sulfur, such as cruciferous plants (cruciferous vegetables such as rapeseed) and legumes. As sulfate is easily soluble in water, ASA is subject to significant leaching, which makes stock fertilization hardly possible.

ASA has a slightly acidic effect in the soil , as the ammonium splits into ammonia and H + ions. A zone with a pH value of 4.0 is formed around the root. This has the effect that trace nutrients (e.g. Fe, Mn, B, Cu or Zn) become more available. The acidic effect is particularly beneficial on naturally alkaline soils.

Compared to the cheaper lime ammonium nitrate , however, no increase in yield was demonstrated for winter wheat on black earth.

Manufacturer

The fertilizer is u. a. distributed by K + S Nitrogen GmbH, which belongs to the K + S Group, and by Eurochem Agro.
