It consists of a mixture of 76% NH 4 NO 3 ( ammonium nitrate ) and 24% CaCO 3 ( calcium carbonate ). Nitrogen is a major nutritional element in plant nutrition .
The percentages mentioned are customary in the trade. The guaranteed minimum nitrogen content is 22%. Depending on the manufacturing process, carbonate of lime, carbonate of dolomite or 5–6% of carbonate of magnesium, even in mixtures, can lead to a slightly different composition of the fertilizer.
use
Lime ammonium nitrate is the most important nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture . Upon contact with water, the ammonium nitrate dissolves endothermically . As a nitrate fertilizer , it has a quick initial effect, which is gradually supplemented by the nitrification of the nitrogen content from the ammonium. The soil acidifying effect of the N-components is partly compensated by the contained lime.
