Markus Pöttinger (born January 5, 1978 in Munich ) is a former German ice hockey player who has spent a total of nine seasons in the German ice hockey league .

Career

Markus Pöttinger's professional career began in 1995 in the DEL with Starbulls Rosenheim . After two years with Bayern, the defender tried his luck in North America. He played in the OHL for the Ottawa 67’s for a year . But he was not drafted , so he returned to Germany after just one season. For one season he signed with the second division club EC Bad Tölz before moving again to the DEL. At the Berlin Capitals he experienced their bankruptcy in the third year, after which he came to the DEG Metro Stars . For the 2005/06 season he then moved to the Iserlohn Roosters , where he was a safe stay-at-home defender .

Pöttinger then worked on his doctoral thesis entitled "The development of the DEL into a stable league system" and therefore ended his career. He remained in ice hockey as a member of the DEL disciplinary committee.
