Amontons is a small impact crater in the western half of Mare Fecunditatis . It appears as a circular, cup-like formation that was excavated from the surface by the impact and shows the same dark color as the surrounding mare . When the sunlight falls at a shallow angle, numerous ghost craters can be seen south-southeast and north of Amontons .
