According to the company, in 2018 the company served over 41,000 customers who purchase electricity and natural gas. This corresponds to an energy volume of around 4 billion kilowatt hours per year.

history

At the same time as the liberalization of the electricity market in 1998, Ampere AG was founded by the brothers Dr. Arndt Rottenbacher and Claus Rottenbacher as well as Thomas Heilmann founded as the first German energy broker. They named their company after the French physicist and mathematician André-Marie Ampère .

In 2001, Ampere AG founded the Austrian subsidiary bestconnect Ampere Strompool GmbH in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee. This became self-sufficient in February 2004 under the name bestconnect Unternehmergemeinschaft GmbH. At the same time, Ampere AG and the Baden-Württemberg Crafts Day founded Germany's first commercial gas pool - after the first commercial electricity pool had been operating successfully since 1999. Together, the two pools still make up the energy purchasing community for the trade. Polly Schmincke: Attack of the electricity rebels . In: Der Spiegel . No. 18 , 1999, p. 90 ( online ).

Together with Trianel , Ampere AG submitted urgent applications to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court (OLG) in 2002 to stop the merger between the energy supplier E.ON and the Essen gas group Ruhrgas . The reason was a feared massive hindrance to business activity. The OLG expressed doubts about the legality of the special permit issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which approved the merger despite a ban by the Federal Cartel Office. The takeover then dragged on until March 2003.

In June 2010, Ampere filed a model suit against RWE Vertrieb AG at the Dortmund District Court . The background was an excessive billing of the renewable energy surcharge . The group had added a correction amount of 0.1 ct / kWh for 2008 to the nationwide uniform rate of 2.047 ct / kWh. According to Ampere, this is illegal as the Renewable Energy Sources Act provides for a deadline for recalculation. This expired on November 30, 2009. RWE had thus exceeded the statutory deadline for subsequent billing. A final judgment is still pending.
