The AmphiCoach GTS-1 is the first floatable touring coach .

construction

The omnibus model is a joint effort by Irisbus in the mechanical and Iveco in the technical area. It was designed by George Smith. In 2006 the first prototype was completed and tested in Marsaxlokk Bay in Malta .

The floatable buses are equipped with all-wheel drive and 50 seats each. The front is strongly bevelled. A flat structure above the chassis prevents it from tipping over on the water. The car body consists mainly of aluminum in order to save weight. Other equipment includes life jackets , pyrotechnic seat belts and an automatic engine shutdown in the event of a fire.

commitment

After a prototype phase of three years, series production began under the direction of Smith; Approximately 12 buses are to be built annually, each costing £ 280,000. AmphiCoaches are used, for example, in Budapest for sightseeing tours and travel along the Danube there .
