Amphinemura is agenus of stoneflies . There are four types in Central Europe.

Characteristics of the larvae

The larvae are small, dark and very hairy. They are up to 6 millimeters long and brownish. Two tufts of tracheal gills arise below the "neck". These each consist of 5 to 10 threads. Because of the small dirt and mud particles that get stuck in the bristles on the body, legs and tail threads, the larvae often act like clumps of mud.

Occurrence and way of life

The larvae of the genus occur in mostly stony to swampy-boggy forest and meadow streams, in which there is a high proportion of detritus . Some Amphinemura species also live in lakes and rivers. The genus is particularly found in low mountain ranges and foothills. The larvae feed on algae and detritus. Their development period is one year. The adults fly from April to September.
