The diocese of Saint Joseph of Irkutsk ( Latin Dioecesis Ircutscana Sancti Iosephi , Russian Епархия Святого Иосифа в Иркутске Jeparchija Swjatowo Iossifa w Irkutske ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Irkutsk, Russia . It is the largest diocese in the world.

history

The diocese was founded on May 18, 1999 by Pope John Paul II as the Apostolic Administration of Eastern Siberia ( Siberia Orientale ) from areas of the Apostolic Administration of Siberia and established on February 11, 2002 with the Apostolic Constitution Meridionalem Russiae as the diocese of Saint Joseph of Irkutsk . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Moscow as a suffragan diocese.
