Irkutsk Roman Catholic Cathedral
The Roman Catholic cathedral of Irkutsk with the patronage Immaculate Heart of Mary ( Russian Собор Непорочного Сердца Божией Матери ) is the episcopal church of the Catholic diocese of Irkutsk in Irkutsk .
After the establishment of the diocese of Irkutsk on May 18, 1999, the foundation stone of the new cathedral was laid on June 10 of the same year. Already on September 8, 2000, she was Cardinal Jan Pieter Schotte and Bishop Jerzy Mazur ordained .
The church made of exposed concrete , designed by Polish architects, is particularly striking because of its distinctive split tower.
