Amphipyra effusa is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the owl butterflies (Noctuidae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 41 to 48 millimeters. The front wings are colored light brown or ocher brown. Cross and wavy lines are clearly visible. Between the ring and kidney flaws there is a conspicuous, almost rectangular, dark field that is sloped and extends to the front edge. Further, smaller dark characters can be seen on the costal edge and near the inner corner. The hind wings are gray-brown without drawing.
Adult caterpillars are green in color with a thin white topline and wide white side stripes.
The yellow-brown doll shows two points and some diverging bristles on the cremaster .
Geographical distribution and habitat
In Amphipyra effusa is a Mediterranean-Asian Art. In German-speaking countries, the species is not native. It prefers open forest areas, clearings and bushy forest edges.
Way of life
The moths are nocturnal and also fly to artificial light sources and bait . They have an exceptionally long flight time, appearing from May to September. The caterpillars feed on various plants such. B. of hockweed - ( Ferula ), heather - ( Erica ), goat clover - ( Cytisus ) and rockrose species ( Cistus ). The species overwinters as a caterpillar.
