Amphipyra is a genus withinthe owl butterfly family (Noctuidae). Amphipyra isfraught with taxonomic problemsdue to a large number of undescribed and cryptic species, species groups and the similarity of the genitals.

diagnosis

The palpi are poorly developed, the second segment, like the terminal segment, is smoothly scaled instead of fringed hair, the terminal segment is longer and more pointed. Thorax , abdomen and legs are hairy instead of scaly, thorax with fringed hair on the sides.

species

The amphipyra genus currently includes 47 species, eleven species in Europe and five in Germany .
