Amphoe Mueang Phuket ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง ภูเก็ต ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) in the Province of Phuket . The province of Phuket is located in the southern region of Thailand .

geography

The district is located in the southern part of the island of Phuket . On the western and southern coast there are some more or less tourist sandy beaches, from the northwest: Karon, Kata, Kata Noi, Nai Harn, Rawai and Friendship Beach on Chalong Bay. The beaches are separated from each other by rocky headlands, of which Cape Promthep ( Promthep Cape ) at the southernmost point of the island is the most beautiful and most photographed. Thai tourists like to visit the headland to watch the sunset.

history

The county was originally called Thung Kha ( ทุ่ง คา ), but it was renamed on November 14, 1938 and has since been named the same as the province.

Buddhist temples

The most important of the 21 Buddhist temples ( Wat ) of Mueang Phuket is Wat Chalong ( วัด ฉลอง , วัด ไชย ธารา ราม ). It is dedicated to two esteemed monks - Luang Pho Chaem ( หลวง พ่อ แช่ม ) and Luang Pho Chuang ( หลวง พ่อ ช่วง ) - who used their knowledge of Thai herbal medicine to help people who were injured in the tin mines during a workers' rebellion in 1876.
